Miguel Ángel Cardenal (Badajoz, 1989) currently lives and works in Extremadura. He completed his artistic baccalaureate at IES Reino Aftasí in Badajoz and received his training at the University of Fine Arts in Seville from 2012 to 2016. His interest in art has been present since an early age, having his first contact with painting at 9 years old. Since then, he has never lost touch with the different forms of creation he has encountered along the way before reaching university. He attended painting and charcoal classes, was a street artist, and photography occupied a significant part of his time. During his training in Seville, he began to be part of the collective “Algo más alegre”. The group, formed by classmates, started opening calls for submissions and organizing exhibitions outside the traditional gallery circuit, in favor of supporting emerging artists. This initiative continues within the collective and has had its latest shows in Madrid. Before finishing university, he had his first solo exhibition in Badajoz, “El paisaje a través de la pantalla”. Thanks to this exhibition, his work became visible, and shortly after, he held another exhibition in Seville, “01001001. Generación Y”. Since then, he has participated in a large number of collective and individual exhibitions in different cities such as Córdoba, Zaragoza, Barcelona, or Madrid. His work has been seen in contemporary art events such as “Z, Jornadas de arte” (Montalbán de Córdoba) or “FINDE” (Doña Mencía), and in art fairs like “Hybrid contemporary art fair” in Madrid. His work has been recognized with awards such as the “Certamen nacional de arte contemporáneo ciudad de Utrera” or “ProjectARTE” from Morón de la Frontera. His work, within geometric abstraction, is characterized by the use of trompe-l'oeil, color, geometry, and the branching of painting, taking it out of its traditional formats. Currently, the artist experiments and researches the limits of painting and its possibilities, focusing on the narratives that arise during the creative process and making the painting itself contextualize.
