Fintan Whelan

In his pictorial practice, Fintan Whelan investigates painting as a constantly transforming field, where color, light, and matter operate as active forces in continuous displacement. His work explores the fluidity of perception and the impossibility of fixing visual experience in a closed form, constructing open compositions that convey a sense of movement, suspension, and change. Through a gestural and almost alchemical process, based on the superposition of pigments, oils, varnishes, and various materials, each painting is configured as a record of gesture, time, and the interaction between surface and light.
