Paco Díaz

Paco Díaz

Paco Díaz is a figurative artist who connects past, present, and future through his artistic proposal and formally appropriates aesthetic resources from a variety of styles different from classical figuration. His genius lies particularly in his theoretical proposal by reimagining historical memory (cemeteries, Roman sculptures) as symbolic landscapes, and in using fiction (science fiction, architectural utopias) to reflect on our human condition and yearning for transcendence. Paco Díaz's enigmatic works reflect the influence of cinema and architecture on his production. Both his urban landscapes and his still lifes share an aesthetic of iridescent, cool, and clean colors; these convey sensations of melancholy and frustration while he plays with irony and pop aesthetics to immerse us in a surreal imaginary. Through meticulous post-production, Díaz manages - with a dark elegance - to make us reflect on our quest for transcendence in this life by using cemetery scenes and religious iconography, playing with a pop and ironic imaginary.

Books

Paco uses a visual poetics of memory and knowledge through the abstraction of book spines. The apparent simplicity of the motif hides a complex investigation into the symbolic weight of the book-object and its capacity to condense experience, time, and identity. With rigorous composition and a restrained color palette, the artist transforms these elements into visual structures that oscillate between landscape and architecture, giving rise to images dense in meaning and formal balance. Each work suggests an open reading, where geometry and texture refer as much to imagined libraries as to fragments of personal and collective history. Books stands out for its technical solvency, refined language, and ability to transcend the literal. Paco turns the everyday into matter for contemplation, and the inert into a vehicle for introspection. It is a meditation on what remains and what fades: a visual archive of silences, knowledge, and traces.

Rome

The Roma series is an artistic reflection on the relationship between classical antiquity and contemporary perception. Paco Díaz combines painting and photography to create a "lived-in landscape." His paintings reinterpret fragments of marble from sculptures of imperial Rome as maquettes, transporting the viewer on a journey that connects past and present. On the other hand, his photographs, printed on floating fabrics and arranged in mobiles, evoke the memory of the individuals represented in Roman busts, creating an immersive and dynamic atmosphere. With an aesthetic that blends 19th-century romantic influences with an ironic and contemporary perspective, Rome reclaims the essence of classical representations, inviting the public to connect emotionally and physically with the works. This exhibition not only highlights Paco Díaz's talent but also his ability to engage with history from a unique and current perspective.

Stalker

The Stalker series is a poignant reflection on memory, beauty, and the passage of time. In this series, the artist uses photographs of ceramic flowers that adorn tombstones, capturing their resilience against the wear and tear of time and weather. These flowers, with their vibrant colors and symbolism, float above the tombstones as a visual tribute to the persistence of memories and emotions. With an arrangement that creates a contemplative atmosphere, Stalker invites the viewer to reflect on the ephemeral and the eternal, exploring how seemingly inanimate objects can become guardians of memories and feelings. The series stands out for its ability to evoke deep emotions through a minimalist and poetic aesthetic.
