Tomás Jetela

Tomás Jetela

Tomáš Jetela is a recognizable Czech painter of expressionist style, whose work articulates a unique visual language from the fusion of abstraction, figuration, and surrealism. His practice focuses on a constant exploration of identity, perception, and human experience, developed through dynamic compositions, an intense color palette, and a strong emotional charge. One of the fundamental pillars of his work is the investigation into the duality of the human mind and the coexistence of multiple identities within the same individual. This concern is formally translated into the coexistence of abstract and figurative forms that generate spaces of ambiguity and open interpretation, activating each work as a changing interpretative field. Another key axis of his production is his ability to place these psychological and existential questions in a contemporary pictorial territory, where the boundaries between reality and imagination are constantly shifting. Each painting functions as a symbolic space in which elements dialogue with each other, reinforcing the coherence and solidity of a body of work with its own identity.

Shifting Identities

The Shifting Identities series brings together a collection of paintings in which Tomáš Jetela investigates the fragmentation of the image as a reflection of the perceptual and psychological instability of the contemporary subject. The works are constructed as open visual fields, where figuration and abstraction coexist in tension, giving rise to unstable compositions in which forms unfold, overlap, and come into friction. This formal ambiguity prevents a unique reading and activates painting as a space of constantly transforming interpretation. From a conceptual perspective, the series addresses the coexistence of multiple identities within the same individual, understanding fragmentation not as rupture, but as a structural condition of human experience. The internal movement of the images, generated through repetition, formal decomposition, and compositional tensions, functions as a metaphor for a branched and contradictory mind.
