About the artist
Raquel Mora's work is situated at the intersection of art and science, where drawing—more than a medium—is a form of thought, a tool for analysis and symbolic construction. Her background in biology and fine arts translates into a microscopic gaze that delves into natural processes, cellular textures, and transforming bodies, to translate them into refined, silent images charged with poetic resonance. From her early works, Raquel has developed a visual language based on restraint: essential forms, restricted palette, refined technique. Her universe is composed of hybrid beings, organic structures, latent landscapes that seem to inhabit a suspended time. Each piece proposes an internal system of relationships, where the line not only defines but activates a rigorous, intimate visual thinking, open to multiple interpretations. I am concerned with the meaning hidden behind the forms of objects or living beings. I study their physics and biological processes from a plastic point of view, and this opens up the possibility of a new world in which parameters are exchanged and a fungus can behave like a necklace, moss can have mobility, and straw can melt. When we talk about formalism, we talk about movement, humidity, weight, speed, sound, we talk about touch, but I think above all we unveil old mysteries and play at creating new ones. For some years now, my interest has shifted to the microscopic world. I use studies related to ecology or microbiology to understand the more prosaic dimension of the human being, that which shapes us and which, due to its size, we ignore, but which nevertheless decisively influences our social and emotional behaviors.
