About the artist
The artist's homeland, Santiago de Chile, provides Benvenuto with initial aesthetic experiences that are established as a repertoire, closely linked to the nature of the mountain range where she lived. The contrast between this environment and large cities, the change and memory of these native landscapes, seems to be the driving force behind María José's inspiration, so the author's spatial context could be considered the central axis around which her work revolves. Her current residence, Australia, which influences the treatment of the migration issue and its effect on people, also distinguishes Benvenuto by providing a certain quality in materials, and it can be said that her geographical and economic situation is again reflected in the material characteristics of her work.
