Alejandro Pantin Gil
A meticulous topographic process reveals forgotten narratives within discarded books, transforming obsolete knowledge into sculpted explorations of form and memory.
About the artist

Artist Alejandro Pantin Gil was born in Caracas (1990). From his childhood in Venezuela, he remembers creating his first sculptures with the well-known Lego blocks, an architectural and sculptural creativity that has accompanied him to this day. After studying architecture, he combined his career as an architect with the creation of these sculptures starting in 2015 using salvaged obsolete books. Alejandro shapes his sculptures by imitating the topographic profile technique used in architecture to represent terrain relief, designing the forms of his pieces as a contour map, cutting through the books transversely until transforming them into figures. In 2018, after his initial sculptural investigations with this technique, Alejandro arrived in Barcelona where he studied a master's degree in management and design at La Salle and began to free his creations from the book itself that hides them. Alejandro began exhibiting in Barcelona (The Perpetual Lab - 2021) and Mykonos (Minima Gallery - 2022) before reaching the Brighton Festival (Encounters Gallery) in 2023. From there, he moved to Madrid with his first solo exhibition “Leer entre Líneas” (Reading between the Lines) following his success at the 58th edition of the Reina Sofía Award 2023, which could be seen at Casa de Vacas in Retiro Park. Through the Emergen Program by Boom Art Community for the professionalization, impetus, and promotion of young creators, Alejandro was proposed for the RE/MAX ARTE Cultural Programming for art and sustainability, this being the VI exhibition cycle (2023). Alejandro has now been selected again for the 59th edition of the Reina Sofia award 2024, for the accelerator program for Latin American artists (PAAL), for the Young Artists Salon with FIA (Ibero-American Art Fair), and for several radio and television interviews.
