- Rationale
- "In 2015, I began to conceive and shape the works in the Mirrorworks series, an open and ongoing body of work in which I employ different working strategies and where I use the mirror as the primary material. The pieces that comprise it are neither photographs, nor sculptures, nor paintings, but rather vision devices that distort the appearance of all of them. These works constitute one of my lines of research on the relationship between the gaze and the representation of reality, which explores the limits and contradictions of visual perception and addresses cross-cutting issues that connect different disciplines such as physiology, mathematics, physics, or semantics. I decided to incorporate the mirror into my artistic practice upon realizing that, in a sense, it is a material that reacts to images in an antagonistic way to photographic paper: while photographic paper retains images when we project them onto it, we can project any number of images onto a mirror without any of them being fixed. The mirror, therefore, is a material that has the particularity of representing exclusively the most immediate present and, consequently, is incapable of containing memory." -Iñaki Domingo
