"Following the line of study of my work based on the bonds we develop with the objects around us (memories, voids, attachment, memory), I decided to create a line of a few pieces about something a bit more alive and present in our homes, almost like another object: cacti. 'Botany Lesson' is not a series with a grand discourse behind it; it is a series based on contemplation and enjoyment of natural forms. I could have chosen any other type of plant, but consciously or unconsciously, I always end up interested in objects with which you can develop a strong bond over time, and if there is a plant that can accompany us for a long time, even pass from generation to generation, it is undoubtedly a cactus. On the other hand, as I mentioned, this series is based on contemplation, where I also study the forms of nature in different types of cacti, to learn from it and use these forms as my own graphics." - Alejandra de la Torre

Alejandra de la Torre

Artist Alejandra de la Torre investigates in her work the attachment people feel towards objects, why we need to accumulate possessions, and where the limits lie between what is considered normal and what can become an obsession. Starting from the particularity of objects, she makes a broader reflection on everyday acts related to different forms and motives of accumulation, from preserving memories to others like collecting. De la Torre combines painting with other techniques such as drawing, screen printing, transfer, and even the presence of physical objects.
