"The Olympics: Sport is one of the sectors where women have been and are most excluded. Even today, their achievements are often presented, behind their coach (if male) or their beauty, as we have seen in many headlines in past Olympic Games. Women have been discriminated against in sport since the beginning of competitions, facing many obstacles, especially linked to the socioeconomic, cultural, and religious realities of societies, making people believe they do not meet the necessary conditions to practice certain activities as men would, in addition to having to fight against ideas of inferiority, less physical capacity, effects on fertility, or the fact that they could end up being very muscular, things that did not fit their gender role; and although some progress has been made, women's sports remains practically invisible and with little support. Nevertheless, the reality is that many women have achieved great things in the history of sport. Great fighters who achieved and continue to achieve, firstly, that women make their way in this world and, secondly, that in addition to making their way, they achieve great victories and feats, demonstrating their great capabilities, which have nothing to do with what we have been led to believe. In recognition of the struggle of all women and so that society knows their history, positioning them also in the place they truly deserve." -Alejandra de la Torre

Alejandra de la Torre

Artist Alejandra de la Torre investigates in her work the attachment people feel towards objects, why we need to accumulate possessions, and where the limits lie between what is considered normal and what can become an obsession. Starting from the particularity of objects, she makes a broader reflection on everyday acts related to different forms and motives of accumulation, from preserving memories to others like collecting. De la Torre combines painting with other techniques such as drawing, screen printing, transfer, and even the presence of physical objects.
