“The rape of apostate Europe” develops a critical and symbolic discourse that combines mythology, religion, and the complexity of contemporary identity. The work presents a composition where elements converge to convey a message about power, transformation, and reflection on European culture. In the foreground, a toy white bull, a reference that harks back to the myth of Europa, the Phoenician princess who was abducted by Zeus in the form of a bull. This powerful symbol of fertility and abundance comes to life through the innocence of the toy, suggesting that the essence of this myth has been sweetened into a mere curiosity. Above the bull's head, a one-euro coin gleams faintly, a symbol of consumerism and the economy that has shaped contemporary European culture. This monetary presence raises questions about the true value of what Europe represents today: a land enriched by its history, but whose essence may be threatened by material interests. The coin, while valuable in the financial sphere, contrasts with the deep spirituality that the crucifix, present in the scene, evokes. Beneath the bull's left leg, a wooden crucifix with a metal Christ lies completely at the mercy of this playful representation of the abduction. The image of the cross, a profound emblem of sacrifice and redemption, becomes here an object of disdain, almost crushed by the banality of a game. This juxtaposition suggests a loss of genuine faith, a critique of a Europe that has drifted from its spiritual roots towards an existence more centered on the material and superficial. Behind this scene, an ammeter is ostentatiously placed inside a transparent glass salad bowl. The choice to place this technical instrument in such a peculiar context suggests a measurement of the vital pulse of modern society, perhaps an exploration of the state of contemporary morals and ethics. Being out of focus, this blurred element symbolizes the uncertainty and confusion surrounding modern Europe, a society in which values and beliefs tend to get lost amidst the voice of progress and the pursuit of innovation. The predominant colors of the work, in a palette of whites and grays, communicate an atmosphere of coldness. These monochromatic tones allow the viewer to confront a vision of Europe that, although rich in history and tradition, seems trapped in a haze of apathy and disinterest. The absence of vibrant color highlights the urgency of recapturing the passion for what this land and its cultural values once meant. “The rape of apostate Europe” is a work that invites reflection on the contrasts between myth and reality, spirituality and consumerism, as well as the past and the present. Through these elements, it presents a visual narrative that not only recalls the classical history of Europe but also questions its current trajectory. In a world where traditions and values seem to be in a state of decline, this painting stands as a call to re-examine what it truly means to be part of this rich cultural heritage.

Lorenzo Fernández

Lorenzo Fernández's work is based on a profound exploration of hyperrealism as a poetic and conceptual language. His painting, executed without photographic support and based exclusively on direct observation, reclaims the technical tradition of painting on board to achieve a precision that transcends mimesis. Each object, surface, or atmosphere is treated as a potential symbol, a trigger for memory, or a silent form of narration. Far from documentary coldness, Fernández uses technical rigor to intensify the emotional. Light, compositional order, and emptiness acquire a structural role: they are the elements that articulate the psychological dimension of his scenes. His works propose a contemplative experience where the everyday becomes an enigma and where each element —however insignificant it may seem— speaks of the fragility of time, the persistence of memory, and the mystery of reality.
