David Casals Moreno

David Casals Moreno (Centelles, Barcelona, 1976) is a painter who has developed his career within figuration, exploring its limits to imbue it with a poetic and emotional dimension. His artistic training began at the Municipal School of Drawing in Centelles under the tutelage of Josep Musach and continued at the Sánchez Almendros – Bosch Cavedo Drawing and Painting Workshop School in Barcelona. Later, he graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, where he also obtained the Diploma of Advanced Studies in the Doctoral Program in Painting. From his beginnings, Casals has worked with a figuration that seeks to transcend the faithful reproduction of reality to generate images that capture its essence through light, composition, and pictorial matter. His work has been recognized with awards such as the LXI Centelles Prize (2003) and the Honorary Medal at the XIV BMW Painting Prize (2009), consolidating him as a prominent figure within contemporary Spanish realism. Throughout his career, he has developed different series that explore the relationship between the object and its environment, the balance between detail and synthesis, or the tension between form and light. His work is part of collections in institutions such as the Fran Daurel Foundation, the Vila Casas Foundation, and the MEAM Museum of Barcelona. In addition to his artistic work, Casals has shared his knowledge by teaching drawing and painting at the School of Arts in Centelles and at the Aula Oberta in Tona, contributing to the training of new generations of artists.
