- Rationale
- The image wants to appear where truth is established, where communication intends to be effective. It emerges as understanding emerges and establishes a link with the world that departs from "the real" or from experience. Language fulfills its social function by making the world comprehensible, and the images of a spectacular world. The society of the spectacle transforms life, horror, the incomprehensible, and catastrophe into knowledge, into information. In the phrase "the absent image," the gap or void that is established in straying is enunciated. It is a missing saying, something that wants to be present but is not. That non-being opens the possibility for unease, for desire, and it is precisely where the poetic is established, to try to speak from where one has no resources to speak. The poetic arises before representation, or rather it represents nothing, painting does not either. It arises as the world arises, from the material used, be it words, surface, matter and color, sound, light, or time. And this materiality of the poetic remains there, established in the abyss to which it belongs. From there it tries to emerge, but its character as a world does not allow it to be communicable. The spectacle and the power of the image that make possible the mechanisms of capitalist domination cease to be effective in the indeterminacy, ambiguity, and non-communication of the poetic.
