His current project — 'Family Distortions' — begins and develops from archival material, from images from family albums as deposits of memory. Starting from them, the creative task — as a new substrate — questions the reliability and veracity of memory, as well as the depth and frankness of the original photographic image. What is sometimes not said is more important than what is said. In both cases, it is an attempt to represent a truth that escapes what we see. An attempt to introduce notes, sometimes subtle, sometimes fierce, that serve as an index to narrate that other reality that can be intuited or discovered through the narrative of the work of art. This pictorial series is articulated through an autobiographical voice that recovers the author's concrete experiences linked to his childhood, in a narrative where the voice of the child he was is intertwined with that of the adult he is, and which is structured through a memory that undergoes different deferred readings. The images present concrete experiences, a time, a geography, and a way of life, specific to a place, an era, and its people, but they nevertheless aspire to refer to the universal human condition and relational bonds, emphasizing their importance for the individual's self-representation and their relationship with others and reality.

Javier Erre

Javier Erre transforms personal memories into pictorial images where memory is distorted and reconfigured. Through a precise technique that combines photography, digital retouching, and oil painting, he constructs intimate scenes with an ambiguous atmosphere, somewhere between the familiar and the unsettling. His artistic quality lies in his ability to condense emotion, technique, and narrative into images charged with psychological resonance. Distortion is not an error, but a language: a way of thinking about memory as plastic material. Each work proposes a visual reflection on what we remember, what we forget, and how we represent it.
